Safety & Quality Control

Safety in the Workplace

The safety and protection of employees and the general public in the workplace is the top priority of all of the R.J. Daigle & Sons companies. R.J. Daigle & Sons has developed and implemented a Health, Safety, and Environmental program (HSE) that has resulted in a superior record of no injuries in the workplace for the past 9 years (OSHA 300 & 300A) and numerous awards for safety. The HSE program encompasses accident prevention, accident investigation, accident reporting, personal protective equipment, fire protection and prevention, environmental protection, hazard communication, substance abuse prevention, hearing conservation, and safety meetings. Safety training includes certifications from the Alliance Safety Council, industrial facility owners, and MSHA.

As a result of the close attention to safety, the company has logged over one and a half million safe man hours.

The National Asphalt Pavement Association (NAPA) awarded its prestigious “Diamond Achievement Commendation” for excellence in Hot-Mix Asphalt Plant/Site Operations to the Central plant from 2013-2019. This commendation is a self-assessment tool that allows companies to “benchmark operations to a national standard” and “demonstrate good corporate citizenship and neighbor friendly operations”.  NAPA’s website states that earning this Diamond commendation “can lead to enhanced safety at the plant and paving sites, monetary savings, production of a better-quality product, improved plant appearance, better-training of employees, and expanded community outreach programs”.

The Louisiana Workers’ Compensation Corporation has in excess of 20,000 policyholders and awards its LWCC “Safest 70” commendation each year to the top 70 safest companies in Louisiana. The award acknowledges the excellence, outstanding performance and commitment to workplace safety of these 70 companies. The chosen top companies are recognized based on the effectiveness of their safety efforts in preventing injuries and controlling costs. RJ Daigle & Sons has received this “Safest 70” award in 2012, 2014, and 2016. We are the only company to have received this award 3 times.

QUALITY PRODUCT

Quality starts where R.J. Daigle Quality Control designs in house all our asphaltic concrete mixes with quality over cost in mind. We design a wide variety of quality asphalt mix types that can be tailored to your specific needs.

Our products are monitored daily by certified technicians through laboratory testing of all incoming materials and outgoing products not only to produce a quality product, but to aide us in our ongoing effort to make a better product.

Our laboratories are accredited through the CMEC Accreditation Program and formally recognized as having the necessary quality management system in place to conduct tests in line with the standards and guidelines specified by AASHTO R18—the “Recommended Practice for Establishing and Implementing a Quality Management System for Construction Materials Testing Laboratories.”

QUALITY WORK

Quality doesn’t stop at the production phase. Our Quality Control Field technicians are on the job site at every step of the installation process.

Trained and certified technicians carefully monitor that the best laydown practices and techniques are observed. In-place density is measured using a portable density gauge and verified through the cutting of pavement sample cores. Smoothness tolerances are measured and verified with an inertial profiler.
