Scope: Roadway Rehabilitation and Safety Enhancements
RJ Daigle & Sons successfully completed the Highway 1019 Project, a comprehensive roadway improvement initiative aimed at enhancing safety, durability and overall driving conditions. Working in partnership with the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD), our team executed a series of upgrades designed to fortify the roadway infrastructure while integrating sustainable practices.
Key Improvements:
Curb & Gutter Installation: 1,002 linear feet of curb and gutter were installed, improving drainage and defining roadway boundaries.
Silt Fencing: Over 49,000 feet of silt fencing were installed to prevent erosion and manage runoff, ensuring environmental compliance.
Milling Asphalt: 90,196.4 square yards of existing asphalt were milled in preparation for new paving, improving surface consistency.
Drainage Structures: Four outdated drainage structures were replaced, including reinforced concrete pipes of varying sizes to enhance water flow efficiency.
Cement-Treated Base Course: 81,893 square yards of cement-treated base course were laid to strengthen and stabilize the roadbed.
Asphalt Paving:
28,419.52 tons of asphalt were placed on the mainline roadway.
2,835.34 tons were used for driveways and turnouts, improving connectivity.
Mailbox Replacement: 193 mailboxes were removed and replaced to meet updated safety standards.
Guardrails: New guardrails were installed on three bridges, enhancing driver protection.
Hydroseeding: Over 16 acres were hydroseeded to promote vegetation growth and prevent soil erosion.
Borrow for Shoulders: 7,500+ cubic yards of additional soil were applied to reinforce shoulders, ensuring stability.
Thermoplastic Striping: More than 20 miles of durable thermoplastic lane markings were applied, increasing visibility and roadway organization.
Rumble Strips: Over 13 miles of rumble strips were added to provide drivers with tactile and auditory alerts for lane boundaries.
Reinforced Concrete Boxes: Two reinforced concrete boxes with headwalls were installed to manage water flow and reduce flooding risks.
Sustainability Efforts
As part of our commitment to environmental responsibility, 20% of the milled asphalt was recycled and repurposed to overlay the new roadway. This initiative reduced waste and contributed to a more sustainable project execution.
Delivering Quality & Safety
The Highway 1019 Project stands as a testament to our dedication to high-quality roadwork and infrastructure development. By prioritizing safety, efficiency and sustainability, we are continuing to set the standard for roadway improvements in Louisiana.
